Story Mode Achievements

The First of Many…
Beat Goliath

Goliath is the second big boss of the game, but you first need to destroy the guns in the room before it even shows up. Once the last one is destroyed, avoid the dead center of the screen, and the edges.

Shoot upwards at Goliaths face with the right analog stick, and avoid the arms to the left and right of it. Usually the arm you are closest to will attack by moving towards you. This also counts to the lasers it shoots from its head, so if you see it charging (a little red forms by its jaw), get ready to run to the other side, or double jump by pressing :a: twice to avoid being hit. His head will slam against the ground some times, so keep avoiding the center.

Break the shell
Beat Zypher Pod with Ares

Zypher Pod is the end boss of Chapter 4, and needs to be defeated using Ares. Once confronted, it will charge you with shields in the way so your shots won’t hit. Make sure to jump dash with :rt: to avoid him, and if he stops prematurely, jump to avoid any ground electric attacks. Once it is drained to half a life bar, the second wave will commence, which is much easier. Just keep firing at it, and when being charged, back into the doorway you entered the battle through to not get hit, but make sure you take out the garbage materials or he’ll lob them at you.

Armored Saint
Find the drone repair bay

After the sub-boss battle in Chapter 4, you fall into green smoke which starts dismantling your suit and leaving you only able to hit once. Tread careful through the next room to avoid being hit. Once you clear it, you’ll read the repair bay. Walk into the chamber to obtain a new suit of armor and the achievement.

Secondary Directive
Beat the boss in chapter 5 with Ares

The boss at the end of chapter 5 is a twist, but a somewhat easy one. Avoid its attacks by dashing with :rt: and using your strongest gun to hit it. Make sure to use Solar Blast with :lt: when possible. When the boss is flying, just dash between the attacks. Later, it will attack with a moderately lengthy beam when you can only dodge by double jumping, then pressing :rt: to pass over it. If at any time you get hit, start spamming the :a: to break free of the shock your character is in and immediately press :rb: to dash or you will be stuck in an endless cycle of attacks you will die from.

It’s the Only Way
Beat the boss in chapter 5 with Tarus

Much like Secondary Directive, this is a twist battle. Make sure you have the shield ready to go for when things get difficult, which they will, and be sure to jump and hover out of the way. Other than that, follow the similar attack and defensive patterns as you would with Ares.

Not-So-Mighty Zytron Rangers
Beat Zytron Walker, Zytron Trooper and Zytron Booster with Tarus

This achievement will unlock through normal gameplay when playing as Tarus. These are the bigger enemies that act as mid-level bosses in certain stages. Just defeat the three of them and the achievement will unlock.

…Should’ve Brought a Friend!
Beat Carrion with both Ares and Tarus

This is earned through natural story progression with both robots. Carrion is the boss at the end of the third stage. Just beat Carrion with Ares and Taures to unlock the achievement.

I AM the Destroyer!

Behold! My True Strength!

Bookworm
Collect all the Data cubes

Much like Ready for Action, you need to grab all upgrade orbs in each chapter. These Data cubes are cumulative between Ares and Tarus, but you will need to replay chapters with upgraded special abilities more than once to get them all.

I Have the Power!
Collect all Upgrade chips

Much like Ready for Action, you need to grab all upgrade orbs in each chapter. You will need to replay chapters with upgraded special abilities more than once to get them all.

Ready for Action
Acquire all abilities and weapons

Weapons are acquired through general story progression, but the abilities need to be obtained in each chapter. You won’t be able to obtain all the ability upgrade cubes right away, and you will have to go back and replay chapters after you upgrade certain abilities, sometimes replaying a chapter more than once to get them all. Once you obtain all abilities and weapons for both Ares and Tarus, this achievement will unlock.

Shield Breaker
Break the enemy’s shield with Plasma Shock or Lockdown

You will pick up the Plasma Shock or Lockdown special move in Chapter 4. A tutorial on breaking an enemies shield will occur a few rooms in. Just follow the tutorial and break the enemy shield.

99 Problems but a Hit Ain’t One
Achieve 99 attack combo

You need to get a 99 hit combo, meaning you cannot get hit or let it drop until you reach the goal. This is best done by using your robot’s weaker weaponry to try to get more hits from enemies. Another method is the fully power Ares, set the difficulty to easy, and just plow through the first or second chapter of the game. There’s no real major description needed, as you will probably unlock this through natural game play.

Set Phaser to KILL!
Upgrade one of your weapons to its maximum level

You need to find upgrade discs scattered throughout each stage. When you do, hit the back button and go to the upgrades screen. Here you can upgrade your gear with the diamond materials that drop. Spend the materials on all three upgrade options on a single weapon.

Vulgar Display of Power
Upgrade every weapon and ability to its maximum level

Collect orbs from enemies you defeat, finishing rooms you’re trapped in, or finding them throughout each stage, and use them to buy upgrades to your weapons and abilities in the pause menu. When you completely upgrade every weapon and ability with both Ares and Tarus, the achievement will unlock.

Bursting with Energy
Destroy 5 or more enemies, at once with Solar Strike

The best time to do this is when you’re trapped in a room where enemies just start pouring in. Build up the Solar Strike and wait for 5 enemies to be on the screen, then use it and destroy them all.
