Every Knee Will Bend
DMC2:Finish the game on Normal Mode with any character
This is for completing Devil May Cry 2 in Normal Mode, with any character, this is actually more classed as an Easy Mode in this series, you can get past it really fast (I did it under 3 hours, but then, that’s because I played it before and knew what to do in most areas, it’ll take about 3-5 hours if this is your first play), Normal Mode is the default mode of DMC2, and I’m not sure if you can actually unlock an Easy Mode, it shouldn’t be needed anyways if you completed DMC1 in Normal Mode before this game, the bosses are very simple and easy, besides a couple of the end bosses, they weren’t exactly as creative with the bosses in this one than they were in the previous game, most can be took down using the shot-gun, or just slashing away at them as some don’t even attempt to be a challenge.
Every Head Will Bow
DMC2:Finish the game on Hard Mode with any character
You unlock Hard Mode when you complete the game on Normal with both characters, completing Hard Mode with Dante unlocks Trish (Barehand Beauty), Hard mode isn’t too hard in this game due to it being easy in Normal settings, to unlock the next difficulty, you also need to complete Lucia’s story on Hard as well, which should really be easier than Dante’s story.
Every Tongue Will Confess
DMC2:Finish the game on Must Die Mode with any character
You unlock Must Die Mode when you complete the game on Hard with both characters, you can stack this along with Barehand Beauty, I’ll recommend using Lucia’s story since its the easier one, make sure to change the costume to Trish, the hardest boss and maybe the only one you’ll have problems with is Tateobesu (Deep One), you might want to switch to Lucia’s normal costume for this one and use Level 3 Cranky Bombs against him, overall, everything else uses the same strategy, make sure to stock up on plenty of health items and devil stars and you should be able to rush past this mode.
Barehand Beauty
DMC2:Finish the game on any difficulty with Trish
In order to unlock Trish, you must clear the game on Hard Difficulty using Dante, see Every Head Will Bow for more details on that.
Trish is an alternate costume when you do unlock her, however she affects the way the game is played, she comes equipped with two guns and the sword of Sparda, these have different attacks than what Dante and Lucia can do, its best to check her abilities and see what she can do, she has a very useful move called Round Trip which she throws the sword of Sparda and it stays on the enemy for a short time, spinning and doing damage.
Monkeying Around
DMC2:Defeat Orangguerra
Orangguerra appears in Mission 3 once you enter the station, he is a fairly easy boss, he can be defeated by going into Devil Trigger (
) regular and just repeatedly attacking him with your sword (
), this boss shouldn’t give anyone much problems at all.
Note: The order you fight the enemies in varies depending who you are playing as, this is Dante’s order of bosses.
No Joke
DMC2:Defeat Jokatgulm
This boss is simple, and appears in Mission 4, to be able to deal damage to this boss, you must first destroy one of the tentacles surrounding it, this will allow you to get to the center of it and be able to deal damage to its weak point (it’s head), make sure when you see smoke, get away from this as it poisons Dante for a temporary time, overall, it’s not too hard, save your Devil Trigger powers until you are able to attack its weak point.
Sin City
DMC2:Defeat Nefasturris
Nefasturris appears in Mission 6, he is a big boss, but despite this, he goes down pretty easy, all of his first attacks are very basic and very easy to dodge, use gunfire as much as you can, dodge only when you need to and the first part of this battle should go very quickly.
The second part of the fight is a bit harder now, but still very easy, he is now only a head, and will float around you, just use your gunfire at this part, eventually the head will land firing multiple lasers at Dante, get over to the back of the head during this, if you have Devil Trigger ready, which you should do if you have not let used it, use it and slash away at its head, this should deal big damage, once you are done with this part, that is this boss defeated.
That’s A Big Mother…
DMC2:Defeat Noctpteran
This boss is simple, yet annoying in a way, it appears in Mission 10, you will be using mostly only gun fire here (
) as it flies around the arena, that isn’t the annoying part in this battle though, it eventually lays eggs which obtain Larva in them, these hatch and then these enemies dig underground, then come out for very short moments, your best interest will be to get the Noctpteran out of the way first so there is less of these to deal with, once it is out of the way, you will now have to defeat the Larva, make sure you are not caught in their attacks, they can deal heavy damage for both running over you or when they are coming out from underground, I would use gun fire on these too as they do not sit still enough, use Devil Trigger whenever you need it.
Hungry Like the Wolves
DMC2:Defeat Bolverk
Bolverk isn’t that much different from Nelo Angelo from the first game, you fight him in both Missions 11 and 16, and he does not fight any differently than he did, he is one of the harder bosses in DMC2, make sure to dodge his attacks, it may be best to use gun fire while in Devil Trigger against him, but there is also the problem that whenever you do fight him, he’ll have two wolves jumping about the place, you are probably best to deal with them first and then Bolverk himself.
Ball ‘n Chain
DMC2:Defeat Plutonian
Plutonian appears in Mission 12, he is a really easy boss, just make sure to dodge the chains he throws at you, you can actually finish him off with melee attacks very easily without worrying about dodging much.
Not Just Any Ordinary Human
DMC2:Defeat Phantom
Phantom appears in Mission 14 and fights exactly like he did in the first game, I did find he was a bit easier though, use Devil Trigger and either attack him with melee or gunfire attacks, and this boss should go down easily.
Never Forget a Face
DMC2:Defeat Trismagia
Trismagia appears in Mission 16. Trismagia is probably the hardest boss you will face in this game, but it’s nothing compared to any of the enemies in DMC1 or 3, so if you completed those before this, this should go down easily, Trismagia is a face you fight, he can split into three faces though, this is when he does most attacks, the blue face does lightning based attacks, the red face does fire and the white face does ice, overall, these tiny attacks are easy enough to dodge, when you see them combining again, that is the time to switch into Devil Trigger and hold
, this should take a good bit out of his health, first off, it’s pointless using Devil Trigger when his face is split into three, simply because damage is reduced in these parts, it is a bit of a long boss since the majority of your attacks are going to be using the Shot Gun (
), make sure to have it equipped, you can do this in the pause menu under Equip.
Extinguished
DMC2:Defeat the final boss with either Dante or Lucia
This is for defeating the final boss of Devil May Cry 2, first off, he starts off as a massive monster which combines almost all of the previous bosses, this part is actually easy, as a trick I learned back in the day makes this boss go down without any skill required whatsoever, stay as far away as the boss as possible, dodge when you need to, and make sure to only concentrate on one part, and go on a rotation of the bosses (make sure the Orangguerra part is your last boss to defeat), and use the shotgun to take this boss down, now do this with every boss until you reach Phantom, these last two have the attacks that are harder to do the trick with, so what you want to do here is shoot them for a while with the shotgun, then shift into Devil Trigger when their health is about half way down, and use the
(hold) attack to take them down really fast, now do the same for Orangguerra and you have made one of the most frustrating bosses go down easily and quickly.
The next part is you just fighting him as the form seen in the achievement tile, this isn’t unlike the fights with Nelo Angelo, but a lot easier, if you completed DMC1′s story on Normal before this, you should have no problem with this boss, just slash away at him with your sword, and make sure to dodge any attacks he throws at you.
This boss appears in Mission 18 which is the final mission of the game.
Two Heads Are Better Than One
DMC2:Defeat Tartarussian
This boss can only be encountered on Lucia’s story, you will fight Tartarussian in Mission 3, he fights exactly the same as Plutonian (see Ball ‘n Chain for more information) does.
Deep One
DMC2:Defeat Tateobesu
This boss can only be encountered on Lucia’s story, you will fight Tateobesu in Mission 7, the boss is underwater, so you can only use the bow-gun to deal damage, it is also invisible so you cannot lock on, he can be seen though, so just aim to where he is, and hopefully you’ll get a hit in, it’s nothing too hard, only awkward controls to worry about if anything.

Over 9000!
DMC2:Pass 9000 floors in Bloody Palace Mode
First off, this mode isn’t easy for those of you who do not have the PAL method to fall on to, so you will have to do this the hard way, one of the most helpful tips I can give you is to stock up on items, yes, you are allowed to use health items in this mode, so you may have to grind a bit for orbs in the Story, but it will be worth it in the end, make sure to completely upgrade Dante for this mode, anything to make this easier is good to have, so don’t rush into this mode just after having completed story.
The hardest enemies in this mode is the Goatlings, there is different types, try to keep your distance by just attacking with gun fire when you encounter any of these.
You can use the portal that allows you to go up 100 floors, but if your health is a bit low (and you don’t want to be wasting any of your items), your best interest will be to use one of the others, going to the one that puts you up 100 floors, is opting to fight the hardest enemies, however, it will be silly to even attempt trying to complete this mode within one sitting using only the 1 or 10 floors up portals, so you will have to go to the hardest one if you want to be able to complete this within a day.
This must be done within one sitting, and you cannot die unless you have a Golden Orb, but even then, that means Dante can only die once in this entire mode, if Dante dies, the mode ends, and your progress is all the way back to Floor 1.
PAL Versions Only: There is a cheat that makes this mode a lot easier for those of you who have the PAL version of the game, it does require some work, but it will make this mode a lot easier and less frustrating if you use it.
- Unlock Trish by completing Dante’s story on Hard.
- Complete Dante or Luica’s story on Must Die mode.
- After doing this, before you load up the save of the character you completed Must Die mode for, select your character as Trish, then after that, load your save.
- Highlight Bloody Palace Mode.
- Hold
+
+
+
all at the same time, whilst keeping hold of them, press
and make sure not to release them until the game loads.
If you done this successfully, you’ll here the sound you’ll usually hear when your Devil Trigger gauge is full.
For those who are interested in what this does exactly, it gives you infinite Devil Trigger which will allow you to literally flash through this mode, always go to the portal that puts you up 100 floors and this shouldn’t take you very long at all, Devil Trigger does not make you invincible, but it is very hard to die whilst using it, but if you have done Hard and Must Die mode, which you would have needed to do for this cheat to work, you shouldn’t have a problem.
I’ll recommend just holding
for gunfire, during Devil Trigger, this takes a lot out of enemies, and it allows you to stay at a safe distance from them.
Collectibles
Vita Maxima
DMC2:Max out the Health Bar with any character
To max out the health bar, you need to buy five blue orbs from the store, and as well as that, collect as many blue orb fragments as you can, see Caeruleus Diabolus for more information.
Magica Maxima
DMC2:Max out the Devil Trigger Gauge with any character
Purple Orbs can only be purchased at the store, you will need to buy five of them and it will cost 80,000 red orbs.
Caeruleus Diabolus
DMC2:Collect 12 Blue Orb fragments (Dante/Lucia)
Blue Orb fragments can be found laying about the stage, and be earned by doing secret missions, here’s a FAQ on both of these, it has to be one character you find 12 with, so you cannot just find 6 with Dante and then 6 with Lucia, one character needs to have 12 of them themselves.
Take Heart, Lucia
DMC2:Collect all Devil Hearts with Lucia
This is for finding all Devil Hearts with Lucia, she has more of these than Dante does, some are given to you via story, while others are just lying about the stages, here is a FAQ of their locations and it also covers weapons (Full Armory and Check Out My Collection).
Weapons
Armed and Dangerous
DMC2:Reach Level 3 on any Sword with Lucia
You can upgrade any of Lucia’s swords for this, it costs 15,000 red orbs to go from level 1 to level 3 with a sword, this goes for any of them, so if you don’t like her first sword but prefer on of her later ones, you can upgrade it and it will still cost the same.
Arms Race
DMC2:Reach level 3 on any Gun with Dante
This is for reaching level 3 on any Gun of Dante’s, I’ll recommend to upgrade the shotgun as much as possible as it’s the best when it comes to certain bosses, in order to upgrade your guns, you need to be at the store to upgrade the guns and you’ll need 40,000 orbs to go from level 1 to level 3.
Like A Hot Knife Through Butter

A Secret Revealed
DMC2:Complete a Secret Mission
The first secret mission in Dante’s story can be found at the giant green door, at the beginning of Mission 1, press
when facing the door and you will enter the secret mission, simply destroy all the enemies, then at the end you’ll get a variety of orbs, this should include a blue orb fragment, so make sure to pick it up as well.
Highest Honor
DMC2:Achieve an S Rank on any Mission with Dante
The easiest mission to do this on is Mission 8, use the Sub Machine Guns if you have them, and only them.
At the start of the mission, do some attacks with the Sub Machine Guns, but be ready to dodge very soon, as he will come charging at you, press
+ left, a few times preferably so you are out of the way, now he should just stand there and bring a circle of flames round him and begin to suck Dante in with a cyclone, let him do this, when you are nearly at the flames press
+ back, all the time, using your Sub Machine Guns on him, repeat this process, its unlikely he’ll charge again unless you move too far away, so make sure to always be at a close distance to him, but not too close where you could end up being hit by the flames, its important not to be hit, the reason why you are doing it this way, is because guns don’t normally effect the combo bar, but dodging at the right time does, once you have defeated him, make sure to be quick and run over to him as he’s being defeated and grab the red orbs (you don’t have much time to do this), if you done all of this correctly, you will be rewarded with your S Rank, just don’t be hit and constantly shoot at him, an Are you Ready? or Bingo combo should be good enough for this, just make sure never to lose the combo, or your rank in that section of the score will not that good.
The Sky’s The Limit
DMC2:Achieve an S Rank on any Mission with Lucia
Unfortunately, Lucia doesn’t have as easy as Mission to do this on as Dante did, so this will be harder to unlock than the above.
The easiest mission to do this on is Mission 1, here are the requirements:
- Clear Time: Less than 9:01 minutes
- Orbs: 4000
- Stylish Average: More than 5 “Show Time!” Combos
- Damage: 0
- Item Used: None
Anything that isn’t S rank will have to be A rank, and I think the minimum you are allowed is 2, so you will need at least 3 of the categories at S rank, you can possibly get 4 S ranks very easily in this if you make sure not to get damaged, to do a dodge, press any direction along with
to get away from incoming attacks.
Stylish!
DMC2:Perform an S Rank Combo using Dante
This can be done anywhere in the game, its best done in an area where you are surrounded by enemies, like one of the elevators, any area does fine though so long as you don’t need to travel too far in-between enemies, you can just keep pressing
repeatedly to get this done, make sure not to get hit or this will completely reset your combo meter.
