World Tournament Achievements

Budokai Novice Champion Budokai Novice Champion
You won World Tournament mode on Novice in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai

Novice Tournament is easy enough.  Set the difficulty to Very Easy and set the time to 30 seconds.  You can play as whoever you prefer, I used Young Gohan and repeatedly pressed :x: , if I had not ringed out the opponent and the timer was nearly down to 0, I held :a: so I could win via Time Out.

Budokai Adept Champion Budokai Adept Champion
You won World Tournament mode on Adept in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai

After completing World Tournament on Novice, you will have unlocked Adept which is now available to buy in the Shop found under Edit Skills.  It will be in a grey capsule in the Recommended option.  You will need Zenie for this, this is the cash in Dragon Ball Z Budokai and you earn 10,000 Zenie for winning the Novice Tournament (also win 5000 for running up), the Adept Tournament is the same thing as the Novice one, it’s just a bit longer.

It will be recommended to have Viral Heart Disease (Green capsule, it will lower both of yours and the opponent’s health over time, and you unlock it via Story) and Vaccine (Green capsule, purchased in Mr. Popo’s Skill Shop, its recommended to just keep going in and out, checking the Recommended item when it shows a green capsule, I never got this to show up for me, its extremely random, so some people may have better luck getting it and others won’t, but it is useful as it takes the effect of Viral Heart Disease off your character but the diseases effects still affect the other character).

Having both of these equipped to any character of your choice (you equip capsules via Edit Skills and the Change Caps), means you just have to block all the time (hold :a: ).  It may still depend on a bit of luck, you can fight if you want to make this anymore easier, but you really don’t have to do anything.

Budokai Advanced Champion Budokai Advanced Champion
You won World Tournament mode on Advanced in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai

Again, if you got the Viral Heart Disease and Vaccine capsules mentioned in the achievement above, this is just as easy.  I also managed to do it with just the Viral Heart Disease, but it’s a lot harder that way.  Just attempt to ring out opponents as soon as possible, if you couldn’t ring them out, just make sure they have lower health than you before the time runs out.  The only difference with this tournament is that it is longer than Adept.

Budokai 3 Goku Budokai 3 Goku
You cleared Dragon Universe in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 with Goku

This is a bit different from the previous story mode, you are in an open world in this.  For a while myself I was confused in what to do, you have to press :y: to display a map, wherever the red dot is, go towards it and then press :a: once you have the name of the location up.

All you have to do in this mode is go towards the red dots shown on the map and eventually you’ll complete everyone’s stories, some are shorter than others.

Overall, nothing is too hard, make sure to set the difficulty level to Very Easy and the opponents to Weak.  You can only go on optional paths in Dragon Universe to unlock certain characters on the second playthroughs.

World Tournament Achievements

Budokai 3 Novice Champion Budokai 3 Novice Champion
You won World Tournament mode on Novice in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3

Budokai 3′s World Tournament mode is slightly more difficult than the previous game’s one.  There is an easy method, but it is extremely luck based!

This method can be used by anyone.  What you want to do is get your character near the edge, and then your opponent should come towards you, when they are near by and have you within their attack range, start tapping :a: while tapping forward as well.  If successful, you should teleport behind them and kick them and this should cause them to ring out.  It’s luck based as they themselves can do this too.  So they can counter this move and if you aren’t careful, they will be the ones ringing you out.  And since you’re near the edge, you need to hope your move is timed right because if they do a kick or one of their supers that have enough force to push you out of the arena, then that can also ring you out.  Also try to avoid in-air combat while going for this.

I also found if you failed the move but are still able to play.  You should be on the inside now while your opponent is on the edge, very quickly input :x: :x: :x: :x: :b: to use whatever your character’s super is (some are different, but most use this input, see your character’s move list for more information), this will be enough to ring them out if they aren’t blocking it or in any kind of super form.

Like I said, this is extremely luck based, it took me a good several tries at completing Adept World Tournament with using this method, but if you don’t want to take time to learn the game to play properly, then this is the next best strategy.

Omega Shenron is probably the best for this.  He starts with a full Ki bar, while everyone needs to increase it, so you have a little more room for mistakes with this character.

Budokai 3 Adept Champion Budokai 3 Adept Champion
You won World Tournament mode on Adept in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3

You unlock the Adept capsule by completing World Tournament on Novice, you have to buy this at the Skill Shop, it will be in a grey capsule.

You won World Tournament mode on Advanced in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3

You unlock the Advanced capsule by completing World Tournament on Adept and having unlocked 32 characters.  You then have to buy this at the Skill Shop, it will be in a grey capsule.

See Budokai 3 Novice Champion for more information.

Budokai 3 Cell Games Champion Budokai 3 Cell Games Champion
You won the Cell Games in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3

To unlock Cell Games, you must first complete World Tournament on Advanced, then unlock Dragon Arena if you haven’t already (see Budokai 3 Dragon Arena for more information), then battle against opponents who are at least LV. 51-55, you don’t need to win against these, but you can choose the World Tournament stage to do easy wins explained in Budokai 3 Novice Champion, to get yourself leveled up a bit at least.  Don’t level up too much though, as far as I’m aware, the opponent you are fighting can’t be a lower level than you.  But its least likely you will go through that many battles to get up to levels like that.  You can keep fighting the same opponent, eventually you’ll get a message after selecting the stage to fight on that someone has broken in, this will be Cell if you have been fighting against opponents at the level I have mentioned.

Before you go towards fighting Cell, you can make this a lot easier if you go to the Skill Shop first and keep exiting and entering until you find the following capsules.

  • Viral Heart Disease (Green Capsule)
  • Vaccine (Yellow Capsule)

Just go towards both the Green and Yellow sections of the shop, its a lot faster to check that way than scrolling through the list that has everything (that the shop currently stocks, stock changes every time you enter), there will always be 3 capsules in each of these sections.

Cell can actually be really easy if you equip your character with Viral Heart Disease and Vaccine capsules.  The vaccine in this game has to be activated though.  You have to hold :a: and tap down twice.  This means, the effects of Viral Heart Disease will be took off you but Cell will still have his health depleting.  It will only stop depleting once he is on his last bar of health and once that is roughly about 25%, you will still have to battle him, I don’t recommend using your Kamehameha attack too much as he will often abuse this with teleport moves.  You are best to either punch or kick him when he is close, and spamming your :b: attack when he is at a distance.  When he does the move that makes him glow red, make sure to be on the defensive all the time, if you can block everything he does in this mode, you’ll see his Ki bar is going down, if that goes all the way down, he’ll be worn out and this will allow you to get a good few attacks on him.

Once you have done that, you will be rewarded with the World Tournament Cell Games capsule.  You can use the same strategy for it.  Equip your character with the Viral Heart Disease and Vaccine capsules and then whatever other capsules you think will help, it doesn’t matter too much about these.  But extra support is never a bad thing.  You have 5 rounds in this tournament so it is the same as the Advanced one.  Only thing here is that there is no way to do ring outs.  So that is where those two capsules come in handy.  There is no point setting your time, as the lowest is 60 seconds, the opponent will have been defeated by then anyways.  Just be careful, the first four fights are easy enough but the last one can be difficult.  Just fight whoever it is, like how you fought against Cell.

Budokai 3 Team Earthlings Budokai 3 Team Earthlings
You unlocked Hercule, Videl, and Uub in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3

  • Hercule: During Piccolo’s second playthrough of Dragon Universe, instead of fighting Buu at the end (if you fought him by mistake, just don’t save at the end and reload and remember what red dot he is this time), go towards the Deserts area which has Baba’s Palace, near Baba’s Palace, you’ll find an area you can enter, you’ll find Hercule here, after that, go to the Central City and after the event here, you’ll unlock Hercule.
  • Videl: Anytime during Gohan’s Dragon Universe, search round the south-eastern islands (the ones that have the World Tournament on them) and keep searching until you find an area you can enter, you’ll unlock Videl if you got the right area.
  • Uub: To unlock Uub, play through Goku’s Dragon Universe (second playthrough) until you reach Kid Buu, you must have Goku’s Super Saiyan, Super Saiyan 2 and Spirit Bomb capsules, you must have these equipped to Goku.  While fighting Kid Buu, make sure to get him down to about 50% on his last bar before doing the Spirit Bomb attack (you can’t be in any form of Super Saiyan, so just stay normal), you have to press :lt: and then :lt: again while near the opponent, you also need 5 Ki bars to do this move with.  Once you start the move, you’ll see bars going up, you have to time your button presses and try to hit any button when you see it as far as it’s going to get, you have to do this 3 times and do it on the first time, you are on a timer here, and you have to win this struggle, if Kid Buu wins, quit out afterwards and try again.  Once that is done correctly, continue on until you go to World Tournament at the end, Uub should be your opponent, defeat him and you have unlocked him as a character.

Budokai 3 Fierce Warriors Budokai 3 Fierce Warriors
You unlocked Cooler, Bardock, Broly, and Omega Shenron in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3

All of these characters are found in your second playthroughs of Goku’s Dragon Universe.  Note: It’s recommended you press :y: to see the map for these to understand what I mean by red dot.

  • Bardock: Once you start the second playthrough, search round the north-eastern area of the middle region, you should find a space ship, enter it and you’ll unlock him.
  • Cooler: After fighting Frieza, go to the red dot that is just below you, you’ll fight SS Vegeta, after fighting him, continue going to the red dots and you’ll fight Cooler, after defeating him, you’ll unlock him.
  • Broly: Everything else makes this character sound so complicated to unlock.  It’s actually really easy.  You’ll be fighting Buu characters, after a while you’ll notice 2 red dots, the one that is on your way, you should enter this one, then go on forward to the next and fight Super Buu, after you have fought him, you should now be nearby a red dot that will be Broly.  Defeat Broly to unlock him.
  • Omega Shenron: Follow the exact same path to fight Broly.  Fight Broly and then ignore any red dots.  Go to the islands that have the World Tournament (they are the south-eastern islands), go east from the World Tournament and on one of the islands you should find Goku’s SS4 capsule.  Equip it.  Now go to the West City, its in the central region in the west of it.  Now there is a new red dot, now just go to every red dot you see and eventually you’ll fight Omega Shenron, which is a really easy fight as you will be using Goku with his SS4 form, after you defeat him, you’ll unlock him.

  • Goku
  • Kid Gohan
  • Teen Gohan
  • Gohan
  • Vegeta
  • Krillin
  • Piccolo
  • Tien
  • Yamcha

You don’t have to worry about clearing it with Broly for this to unlock.  Even know there’s no achievements for playing Dragon Arena, you have to play it to unlock the following characters/modes, which are required for other achievements.

  • Opponents LV. 31-35:  Break-in: Nappa (Reward for winning: Saibamen)
  • Opponents LV. 51-55: Break-in: Cell (Reward for winning: World Tournament Cell Games)  Note: It is a waste of time attempting this one if you have yet to complete World Tournament on Advanced, as he will not break-in until you do this.
  • Opponents LV. 66-70: Break-in: Piccolo (Reward for winning: Cell Jr.)

Break-ins occur randomly, some will get lucky and get these break-ins straight away, while it could take anything from 1-100+ fights for others.
