Summary:
You awake after a battle to find yourself in a forest. You don't know how you got there, and you're introduced to a talk sword and a flying creature known as Fidget. From here you need to find out who you are, and why you can't remember what happens. You have a far bigger purpose in this world, but you need to discover what happened and what your destiny is.
Author Notes:
This game is fairly straight forward and you can explore as much as you want as long as you don't complete the final fight in the Everdawn Basin. There are only 2 achievements which you can really miss, one cancelling out the other, so make sure to read the "Paragon" description below to avoid missing the alternative choice. The only real difficulty comes from the tough/hardcore playthrough and the challenge areas. The challenges require some patience, but they're not impossible to perfect with practice.

Story

Defused Defused
Defeat Fuse

Fuse is the first main boss you will fight in the game. He’s not overly difficult, but if you’re not prepared and he catches you off guard he will cause a fair amount of damage to you.

Waters of Life Waters of Life
Defeat Lady Tethys

Lady Tethys can be a little tricky the first time as she keeps her distance from you. Her attacks consist of a lighting attack which can causes extreme damage if you’re too close. As before, use Fidget to your advantage, and combine your attacks to hit her when she’s at a distance.

High Spirits High Spirits
Defeat Baron Kane

Kane is another fairly easy boss fight. But instead of just attacking you, he will spawn other enemies which will attack you. Try to stay in the air using your Dust Wind attack and use your combination of Fidget projectiles with the wind attack. He doesn’t do much, just swipe at you, so he’s a fairly easy target to avoid.

Silence Those Guns Silence Those Guns
Destroy every enemy Cannon

As you progress through the Everdawn Basin you will need to disable three large guns as you make your way to General Gaius. These guns are on your path, so when you see them, make sure you destroy them. It may be possible to bypass them, but they’re part of the quest progression.

...And the Dust Settles …And the Dust Settles
Defeat General Gaius

This will be the most demanding fight you need to take part in. General Gaius will test your patience, so don’t rush and carefully avoid all his attacks as he’s a hard hitter. I recommend that you spend time farming enemies to save up enough money to buy large amounts of health for this fight. General Gaius has a very general attack pattern, but if he hits you, you may find yourself  on the losing end if he hits you too many times.

Phase 1

This first phase is easy enough, just use your general attack combinations, parry when possible and do your best to avoid Gaius’s guards. If you manage to leave yourself open for attack, Gaius won’t give you enough time to escape and he will waste a rather large portion of your health, even if you’re fully upgraded.

Phase 2

This second phase introduces a new element to the fight where Gaius will throw energy orbs that will stun you when hit. He will also have gun ships bombing the area. You will have some help from the moonbloods, but they serve as a better distraction, rather than being helpful.

Phase 3

The third phase is the same as the second, but this time he will have his guards and the gunship attacking you while throwing energy orbs at you.

Phase 4

This final phase isn’t overly difficult, but you’re introduced to a new environment where you have to jump between platforms and avoid the lava below. Gaius will use the same general attacks as he did before, but he can become far more aggressive. He will also knock you back into the lava if he hits you.

Above and Beyond the Call Above and Beyond the Call
Complete the Game on Tough or Hardcore setting

Like any game with a hard difficulty, this one can be a challenge for some, and not so much for others. There isn’t much to say about this other than you need to beat the game on Tough or Hardcore. The game may start out as a challenge, but leveling up really helps. Also saving all your friends will reward you with a 5% health bonus for each rescued.

I also recommend farming xp by killing as many enemies as possible, then re-visiting the same areas again. Doing so will allow you to fully level your character and attacks.

Side Quests

Complete 5 Sidequests

See “Savior of Falana”.

Hero of Falana Hero of Falana
Complete 10 Sidequests

See “Savior of Falana”.

Savior of Falana Savior of Falana
Complete 20 Sidequests

Most areas in the game has some sort of villager or NPC that you can talk to. If they have a side quest for you they will have a green leaf above their head. There are only 20 side quests in the game, and most require little to no effort, but there are a few where you will need to complete multiple objectives, or progress until you have a set skill to complete them.

You will need to complete the following side quests for this achievement:

Merchant:

  1. A New Venture

Aurora Village:

  1. Reunion
  2. C-C-C-COMBO BREAKKER
  3. What’s in the Box?
  4. The Blacksmith
  5. Out to Dry
  6. Lost Time

Fale Sidequest:

  1. Find the Sparklies
  2. Freedom of Movement
  3. Reinforcement
  4. Slimed
  5. Taking Point
  6. Better than Nothing

Mudpot:

  1. Red Moss
  2. Pearly Whites
  3. Trolk Vengence
  4. Hittin’ Stick
  5. A Better Fidget
  6. Over the Fence
  7. Snowflakes

The Blacksmith of Archer's Pass The Blacksmith of Archer’s Pass
Meet Haley

Haley is the blacksmith in the Archer’s Pass region. Her forge isn’t too difficult to find, but it’s hidden enough that if you’re not the exploring type, you may not find it unless you’re trying to complete all 20 Sidequests. To reach Haley you need to climb to the top of Archer’s Pass, then locate the chimney/pipe to drop down into the forge. The video below will show you the direction to go, but she’s fairly easy to find.

Opposite of Fail Opposite of Fail
Complete all Fale Quests

Fale can be found on the east side of Aurora near where you find the mayor of the town. He will ask you to bring him materials from various creatures to improve weapons and armor for the town. There are several phases to this side quest, but there is an easy way around. I recommend talking to Fale early on to get the quest, but progress through the game up until you reach the mountains.

By this point you should have enough materials, or at least one of each item he requires. He will ask you for multiples of each item. Instead of spending hours killing enemies for these items, head to your local shopkeeper and sell them at least one of each item. All you need to do now is wait for the shops to replenish several times and you will be able to buy back the items you need at a fairly low price.

You will need to complete the following sidequests for this:

  1. Better than Nothing (5 Imp Hides)
  2. Taking Point (8 Beast Spears)
  3. Slimed (4 Slimy Spikes & 4 Slimy Coats)
  4. Reinforcement (2 Giant Rocks & 2 Giant Cores)
  5. Freedom of Movement (6 Avee Wings & 6 Avee Claws)
  6. Find the Sparklies (3 Florn Tentacles & 3 Florn Sparks)

Paragon Paragon
Opt out of putting poison ivy into Gianni’s laundry

Once you reach Aurora you will have a chance to talk to the villages and accept their quests. One villager won’t talk to you as he claims he doesn’t have time for you. Head east and look for a small girl. She will be looking for her brother and explain the situation and that her brother has gone missing. Head back to Gianni and talk to him about the boy. He will then tell you that he’s doing his laundry.

Once you clear up the situation and save the boy, you will then need to collect Giaani’s laundry. Before you do this, make a manual save using the save point next to the laundry location. From here on you will be given a choice about what to do. Fidget will want to rub poison ivy on Gianni’s clothes, but you may not want to. Pick either option, then take the clothing back to Giaani. This will either unlock “Paragon” or “Renegade” depending on your choice.

Once you complete one choice, reload your save, then select the the opposite decision.

Renegade Renegade
Reign chaos by putting poison ivy into Gianni’s laundry

See “Paragon”.

One Last Wish One Last Wish
Fulfill Bopo’s wish for snow

Once you reach Mudpot you will meet a boy called Bopo. You will need to assist him and his town to progress in the main story, so complete the required task of turning the water back on. Then talk to him again once you return to the village. He will tell you to bring him some snow as a last wish. From here you will need to heard to Blackmoor Mountains and locate a cooler then collect some snow. The video below will show you the location of the cooler. Once you have the snow, all you have to do is return to Bopo and complete the quest, By this point, you will have most likely completed 20 side quests unless you’ve been ignoring them, so you will unlock “Savior of Falana” at the same time as completing this one.

Misc

A Decent Start... A Decent Start…
Successfully complete a 200+ hit combo

To perform a 200 hit combo, you will need to earn your Dust Wind ability and the use of Fidgets projectiles. You can earn this smaller 200 hit combo early on in the prologue before chapter 1.

That's More Like It That’s More Like It
Successfully complete a 1000+ hit combo

Unlike “A Decent Start…” this one can be a little tricky to execute perfectly, but there is one area that you can perform a 1,000 hit combo perfectly. After you enter chapter 2 and obtain the fire upgrade for Fidget, you will be able to cast walls of fire which will fill the screen and chain together excessive amounts of hits.

The area in the video below is within the The Sorrowing Meadow. As you make your way down to the second mansion, you will have to deal with a phantom like enemy which you can only kill with projectiles. Have the phantom appear, but don’t attack anyone, press :b: to fire a projectile, then press :y: to use the Dust Wind attack. Time your attacks, but once the wall of fire goes up, press :b: again and use your wind attack to chain a second fire attack.

Keep doing this and you will hit well over a 1,000 hit combo in this area. There are plenty of areas to earn this massive combo, but this is areas appears to be the easiest. If you happen to get hit, just jump back up and head back to the previous area and try again.

Sad Way to Go Sad Way to Go
Kill an enemy with the slide attack

During chapter 2 you will learn how to do a slide kick. To perform the kick you need to hold down on the :ls: , then press :a: to slide. If you heard out of Mudpot through the upper levels, you will find a single enemy where you can perform your slide kick kill. Just slide into the enemy and this will unlock.

Bad Therapist Bad Therapist
Bug Matti

Once you find Haley in Archer’s Pass, you will also be introduced to Matti. To unlock this achievement you need to talk to Matti several times. He will always grumble at you, so just keep talking to him until this unlocks. You should only have to talk to him 5 or 6 times.

Blue Bomber Blue Bomber
Simultaneously Kill 6 Enemies with a Single Bomb

To kill 6 enemies with a bomb fruit you first need to find an open area where you have access to the fruit and a group of enemies. Once you have a group of enemies lined up, use your dust wind attack by pressing :y: to pull the fruit towards the group of enemies. If you manage to kill 6 enemies in one explosion this will unlock.

Cutting It Close Cutting It Close
Successfully Parry with less than 10% health remaining

You can do this at almost any point during the story, but if you do it early on, it’s a lot easier to waste your health as you won’t have any upgrades and require far less hits to lose your health. Once you encounter the area with the first boss like enemy, allow it to waste your health until it’s down to a small red flashing bar. Once you’ve got to this point, walk up to the enemy, then hold :x: as the enemy tries to attack you. If you time the attack right you will parry and this will unlock. You can do this on any enemy in the game, but the bigger enemies are far easier to time.

Bringer of Death Tinkerer
Craft an item from a blueprint

Before you can craft an item from a blueprint, you will need to locate Haley in Archers’ Pass. To find her you need to climb all the way to the top of the pass, then look for a chimney which you can jump down. See “The Blacksmith of Archer’s Pass” for a video guide.

Once you have access to creating items through Haley, select the item you want to make, then press create. You will need the materials to make each item, so just make something cheap that requires little to no materials. Haley also sells materials so if you’re missing something, she may have it.

Push and Turn Push and Turn
Unlock a Treasure Chest

Once the game starts, run to your left. There will be a key right in front of you as you enter the next area. Once you have this key, continue on your path, jump down past the fallen tree, then head left again. You will find a chest, all you need to do now is unlock it with the key by completing the mini game.

Character Progression

Well on your Way Well on your Way
Pick Up an Ability Orb

The first Ability Orb you find is located near the start of the first level. You will encounter it, but you can bypass it, so make sure when you get to the fallen tree to jump down, continue across and collect the orb before you continue.

Distant Thunder Distant Thunder
Use the DUST STORM on Fidget’s Projectiles

As you progress you will learn how to use the Dust Storm and how to take advantage of Fidgets’s Projectiles. You will need to press :b: with enemies nearby, then press :y: to intensify the projectiles. This is one of the best weapon combinations that you have at your disposal, so make sure you make good use of it.

With Great Power... With Great Power…
Level Up by Assigning Skill Gems

As you progress and kill enemies you will be rewarded with XP. Fairly early on you will be prompted to upgrade your character. There are several attributes to add to, so just pick and choose between health, attack, defense and Fidget. Applying one upgrade to any of the skill trees and this will unlock.

Arenas

An Impressive Display An Impressive Display
Earn a Four-Star Rating in any Challenge Arena

The area modes are trials to test your speed and point gathering skills. The areas consist of your rushing through a mixture of fire, and collecting point orbs as well as trying not to take any damage. You also need to reach the end with a somewhat decent time to be rewarded with the extra points needed to earn 4 stars. This area is the easiest and the only one that contains enemies, but it requires a lot less effort than some of the other arenas. You can find this challenge area in the Abadis Forest on the eastern side  of the area.

The Stuff of Legends The Stuff of Legends
Earn a Four-Star Rating in EVERY Challenge Arena

In total there are 6 challenge areas which vary in difficulty. Some are easier than others, but they require some patience and practice. I recommend that you do one or two runs through the arenas to learn where everything is, and how to navigate the areas. Once you’re ready, you will need to make your way through the arena of choice as quickly as possible. To earn the high scores you will need to make sure you take no damage, hit as many point orbs as possible and finish with a time. If you collect all the orbs but cross the finish line without a time, you won’t hit the four star rating.

It’s possible to take some damage is illustrated in the video, but as long as you don’t keep repeating the same mistake and lose multiple groups of 100 points, you get get away with taking one or two hits. If you do happen to hit a section with fire and end up catching on fire yourself. Use it to your advantage and speed through the rest of the fire traps. You won’t take extra damage or lose more point unless you stand around for long periods of time.

I highly recommend that you obtain all the ability upgrades before you attempt these as some of the extra abilities improve your chances of completing with ease.

You can find the areas in the following areas:

  1. Abadis Forest
  2. Archer’s Pass
  3. Aurora Village
  4. Cirromon Caverns
  5. The Sorrowing Meadow
  6. The Glade

Collectibles/Friends

Wait, aren't you...? Wait, aren’t you…?
Unlock a Cage and Rescue a Friend

See “Baker’s Dozen”.

Baker's Dozen Baker’s Dozen
Hang out with Twelve Friends in the Sanctuary

Throughout the game there are 12 friends hidden throughout the world. To save these friends you will need to have 4 keys in your inventory to unlock a single cage. In total you will need 48 keys to unlock all 12 cages. You will need 1 key to unlock standard chest, but I recommend that you save as many keys as you can and locate all 12 friends before you use the rest of your keys on the various chests.

The following video will show you all the locations to find each friend. Once you have all 12 friends saved, make your way to the Sanctuary on your map and hang out with everyone you’ve rescued. You access all the friends, you will need to obtain all ability upgrades such as slide kick, double jump and the extended air jump. You will find all these abilities as you progress through the game, with the last one being found in The Maw location in Everdawn Basin. If you rescue a friend, you will also need to find a save portal as they’re not automatically saved. So if you find several, then quit, you will need to rescue them again.

About Fizz

I've always been somewhat of a casual gamer, But I felt that I can do more with the games I play. So after long deliberation, I opened Lead Example with several friends. So what was once a youtube channel evolved into a place we can call our own.

  • leadexample

Thanks :), with all the abilities, you will obtain them through story progression. So if you don’t have what you need, just progress and you will find the next upgrade soon enough. There is a lot of backtracking required for the collectibles and such in this.

  • ThirdEyeGirl

No, you’ll get double jump in the next area in the mountains. For that last mansion, you just have to get you position right to miss the thorns on the vines.

  • ThirdEyeGirl

You need the slide kick witch you will obtain by going through Mudpot’s basement area.

  • roblomb

Love the guide – it’s really useful!
I doubt you know how to get double jump?  I’m stuck in the Sorrowing Meadows and i think I need double jump to access the last mansion?

  • Riccardo_tt

Hey does anyone know how to free the sheep in mudpot?

  • leadexample

No problem :). It’s a great game, probably the best arcade game I’ve played so far. Though I’m not a big arcade fan myself. But they’re getting better.

  • Tom

Okies thank you, and thanks for such a nice guide to such a great game!

  • leadexample

True, but it’s a lot of trial and error. I used it the first few tries, then got tired and started to guess where the platforms were.

  • ThirdEyeGirl

I wouldn’t say you’d need to use the bomb fruit, cause I didn’t. Though it did take me a few tries. :p

  • leadexample

The drops are fairly random, so just backtrack and kill as many Avees as you can. There are plenty are areas to farm them, just keep re-visiting. Then if you get at least 1 claw, sell it to one of the stores and wait for them to re-stock with the item. You then just buy them. The drops in this game are very hit and miss so it seems. So just keep at it and you will get them at some point.

  • Thomas Baker14

Having real trouble wing the freedom of movement quest, can’t get avee claws? Any ideas what I’m doing wrong? I just unlocked the volcano lvl.

  • leadexample

Thanks, we’ve been working hard to make sure this site is as user friendly as possible. There are still a few things to work out, but we’re getting there. And yeah, Dust is well worth the experience.

  • BriGuy

Just found your site.  Good information, well presented.  Dust is such a good game, I’m in love with it.

  • leadexample

Yeah as ThirdEyeGirl mentioned, there is a hidden platform in the for
top right corner of the area. You will need to use the bomb fruit to
    gain some extra light

  • ThirdEyeGirl

Never mind, I figured out how to use it. *blush*

  • ThirdEyeGirl

You have to jump up to the hidden platform that’s all the way to the right. And have you figured out how use Haily’s transporter?

  • Shaunster12345

How do u do the red moss quest im clearly stood in front of some glowing red stuff and it won’t let me pick it up any suggestions?
