Fractal Hero

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideFractal Experience
Complete a fractal dungeon.

Complete your first fractal at any scale and tier.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideLessons in Agony
Complete difficulty scale 20 in the Fractals of the Mists.

Scale 20 on the first tier will introduce you to Agony Resistance. This is a slotted item that you place in ascended armor to negate the effects of agony. You will need a single armor, weapon or trinket with one open slot. Once you have this item, you can place a single +8 Agony infusion into the slot.

Entering fractals without the minimum required Agony Resistance will result in the effect causing high damage to your health.

In the long run you will need 150 Agony Resistance by the time you reach Tier 4.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideFractal Frequenter
Number of fractals completed in the Fractals of the Mists.

This achievement you will earn over time. The requirements are simple, complete 500 fractals. This may sound tedious, but it takes far less time than you would expect. If you take part in completing the 3 daily fractals, and the 3 recommended fractals daily, you can clear 42 within a week.

The most straight forward way to earn this is to forget about it, and just play through fractals at your own pace. It’s a goal you will earn as you progress through enjoyment of the content.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideBUY-2046 PFR’s Challenge #103
Complete difficulty scale 50 in Fractals of the Mists.

Up to this point you should have cleared most of the fractals. Doing so you will also have seen the mechanics. The first time you experience this fractal will be at 25. This time around you will have a single instability tied to the fractal as well.

The last fractal of each tier is the hardest for that tier. So if you need to practice this fight, stick to 25 until you’ve learned the mechanics. Once the mechanics make sense to you, progress further.

The achievement is simple enough, clear the 50 scale fractal and this will unlock. You do not however have to progress up to this point. If you have access to this tier, you can start on 50 straight away.

Note: You will need 61+ agony resistance to clear this fractal.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideFractal Initiate
Complete each fractal scale from 1 to 25.

Complete the following tiers fully to unlock each achievement.

This is a fairly tedious task, though a dedicated group can play through all 100 scales within a week. Each tier increase in difficulty, along with the introduction of mistlock instabilities at tier 2.

I highly recommend preparing yourself early for this challenge. Keep in mind that you can only access tiers you have unlocked. So if you don’t have a high enough fractal level, you will need someone else to open the higher tiers.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideFractal Adept
Complete each fractal scale from 26 to 50.

See “Fractal Initiate”.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideFractal Expert
Complete each fractal scale from 51 to 75.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideFractal Master
Complete each fractal scale from 76 to 100.

 Core Fractals

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideThe Floor Is Lava. Don’t Step In It
You’ve completed the Volcanic fractal inside the Fractals of the Mists without falling in the lava.

There are only two areas of this map which contain lava. The first is a mine shaft which you need to pass through after your first shaman encounter. This is simple enough, don’t fall down to the lava below.

The second area is the last shaman fight. Within this area it’s possible to stand in lava that appears from fonts on the floor. The other hazard is the large outside area around the rocky platform you’re standing on. This final area is where you will want to pay the most attention to avoid the spawning fonts.

Aside from the obvious don’t stand in the lava, keep moving and use reflects/projectile destruction on this boss during the elemental phases.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideCarrier Cacophony
You made it through Rabsovich’s onslaught without dying while inside the Fractals of the Mists.

During the Underground Facility fractal, you need to make it to the end without dying. This sounds simple, however the button room at the start of the fractal can prove to be quite punishing.

If you goal is to earn this achievement, you will want to do it on the first tier to avoid any frustrating deaths. Most of this fractal is simple enough, including the boss. However the first area tends to be responsible for most player deaths.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideOpen Grave
Your party killed all of the monsters in the Solid Ocean fractal inside the Fractals of the Mists.

Before you reach the boss, there are various enemies including ambient creatures. You need to kill everything from the starting platform, up to the boss platform.

While doing this, do not progress to the next platform area until the area is clear. There’s no way to return to the previous platform if you make a mistake.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideFancy Footwork
You’ve made it through the Swampland fractal inside the Fractals of the Mists without triggering a single trap.

At the very start of the swamp there is the wisp mechanic. While roaming this area you will find bear traps and snares. To complete this you will need to clear the wisp mechanic without triggering any traps.

Most traps are easy to spot, and using first person camera mode makes them easier to see. You can also stand around and avoid all traps while others run the wisps for you.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideTake a Bow
You and the captured colossus of the Cliffside fractal share a moment of respect.

Progress to the end of the fractal. Once you’ve killed the boss, wait for a moment and do the emote /bow when the colossus bows the group.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideHop, Skip, and Jump
You’ve made it all the way through the Uncategorized fractal inside the Fractals of the Mists without falling to your death.

There are two main sections to Uncategorized which you will have to tread very carefully. These two sections are filled with harpies. Use reflects and try to keep your distance. As long as you don’t get knocked off, or fumble you jumps between the platforms. This will unlock and the end of the fractal.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideIf We Only Had Marshmallows
Your team lit every bonfire in Snowblind fractal inside the Fractals of the Mists.

After clearing the first bonfire area in Snowblind, there is a second area with the elemental mini-boss. This area has five bonfires, use your special action key to light all five for the achievement.

You will need to keep the fires lit to avoid the snowstorm, and to also keep inflicting damage on the elemental.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideFlawless Fin Foil Foes
As a dolphin, you evaded capture by the krait while swimming through the Aquatic Ruins fractal.

During the Aquatic fractal you will need to complete the dolphin path without being hit by the Krait. There is an element of random tied to this, party due to the path you may get. If you happen to get the right path, the Krait tend to be very hit and miss with their attacks.

This is one of the harder achievements. These enemies are extremely tricky to dodge. The best strategy is to try to keep your distance as much as possible. Use your combat skills as much as possible and try to dodge everything that’s thrown at you.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideOut of Cluck
While inside the Urban Battleground fractal, your team killed all the chickens in the city.

Throughout the fractal there are 12 chickens. They spawn in random locations, but there are several in each sector of the instance. You can break it up into the outside, inner wall and courtyard.

Generally there are 4 in each area, but it can vary. This is fairly simple, but if you’re having difficulty finding them. Clear the instance, and backtrack the areas to make sure you don’t miss any after the boss.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideHolo-Hornpipe
Dance with the Aetherblade hologram dancers.

While progressing through the Aetherblade fractal you will find three two dancers. The first can be found next to the small building after the plasma floor. The second is located in the area above with the spinning laser turrets.

Approach both dancers and do the emote /dance to earn the achievement.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideHorrik’s Horror
Defeat Mai Trin’s 2nd in command.

Once you enter the boss room to fight Mai Trin, ignore her and focus Horrik. There’s not much else to this achievement, just kill Horrik as soon as possible. Killing Horrik may cause problems with progressing the fight. Make sure you do this on a run that’s not focused on beating the boss as you a reset will be required.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideSubject 6 Deep-Sixer
Defeat Subject 6 after causing it to gain maximum stacks of overcharge possible without exploding.

This boss is an ooze which has some unique mechanics. During this fight the boss will form a shield. To earn this achievement you need to hit the shield until 19 stacks appear.

Once 19 stacks appear, everyone needs to stop attacking and avoid the overload. From here on out, you cannot exceed this stack amount. You also must make sure that Subject Six doesn’t hit 20 stacks at any point.

After hitting the required amount, do your best to avoid hitting the ooze when it puts up a shield.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideShockwave Skipper
Defeat the leaders of the Molten Alliance without being hit by a shockwave.

The shockwaves you need to avoid come from the Berserker. The charr will jump up and down creating a shockwave. This will then ripple out hitting players. Jump over these attacks and kill the boss. This enemy will also do a mid-air shockwave that you can avoid by not jumping.

If your group has good damage and breaks the Defiance Bar, it’s possible to kill the berserker without him performing this skill too many times. Stay close to the boss to avoid it teleporting around the platform to other players.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideFirestorm Extinguisher
Defeat the Molten Firestorm before defeating the Molten Berserker in the first phase of the encounter, then defeat the upgraded Molten Berserker in the second phase of the encounter in the Molten Boss fractal.

Just as the achievement description says, defeat the Molten Firestorm before the Berserker. Doing this makes the boss harder as the Berserker will transforms into a hybrid Firestorm/Berserker boss. I highly recommend doing this on the lower tier fractals as this can be extremely tedious on the higher tiers.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideGoing Berserk
Defeat the Molten Berserker before defeating the Molten Firestorm in the first phase of the encounter, then defeat the upgraded Molten Firestorm in the second phase of the encounter in the Molten Boss fractal.

Similar to “Firestorm Extinguisher”, instead of killing Firestorm first. Focus and kill the Berserker. From here, finish the fight by killing Firestorm last. This is considered the easier boss tactic of the two.

You will encounter this in just about every instance of this boss.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideVolcano Hero
Defeat the Imbued Shaman on scale 51 or above without losing any captives.

Enter the Volcanic fractal above scale 51. Clear the first area and make your way down the tracks past the giant rolling fireballs. Once you’re at the next area with the Shaman, have one player focus on breaking the Shamans shield with the fallen rocks.

The other players in your party can then focus on the Grawl that spawn in the area. If you happen make a mistake and the Grawl get to a capture, they will shove them off the ledge to their death.

Burst damage is extremely useful here. Skills at slow and immobilize the enemies are also very useful.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideMaster of the Molten Ore
Only use four buckets during the boss encounter of the Underground Facility fractal.

After you reach the boss in the Molten Facility fractal, you will need to proceed to kill it without using more than four molten metal buckets. On the lower scales this if fairly straight forward if your group has high damage.

Your goal is to pour the molten metal over the boss to inflict an effect called superheated. With this effect applied your party will do an extreme amount of damage to the boss. You want to make sure that you keep moving the boss between the buckets and re-apply this affect as it only lasts 30 seconds.

A high damage group should be able to kill the boss within two buckets. If you use more than four buckets, you will have to start over.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideNo Lasers!
Defeat the Jade Maw without anyone in your party being hit by its beam attack.

While fighting the Maw in Solid Ocean, your party needs to avoid the laser attack from the boss. This attack is highly telegraphed, however it has a few visual bugs that can make this a little tedious.

The boss will randomly focus a player in your party. From here, they will have a red skull marker above their head. This will then be followed by a beam of light from the Maws eye.

The visual bug tied to this is sometimes you won’t see the beam of light. The most straight forward way to deal with this is to watch the marker above the player’s head. If it vanishes and they have a crystal they can capture the beam and throw the crystal at the Maw. If they don’t however, they can dodge as soon as the skull marker appears above their head. Using the beam of light as an indicator is hit and miss, so players should learn to use the skull marker instead.

If one player is hit the group will have to start over.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideWeapons Tester
Destroy the thermal core without being struck by any molten weapon attacks.

During the boss in the Molten Furnace you will need to destroy the reactor core in the center. There are 3 phases to this fight where you will be introduced to the three environmental mechanics.

After the third three phases there will be a final phase. During this last phase you will see all the environmental attacks all at once. To earn the achievement you need to destroy the core in the middle and survive not being hit by all the attacks.

Stand near the core and place reflects on top of the group. This will allow everyone to focus damage on the core.

The only attack that you really need to be concerned with is the heavy weight that produces a shockwave. If this attack happens, make sure you jump it. You can block the fire projectiles and the tornadoes, but you cannot block this shockwave attack.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideStill Faster Than Light
Complete Kleptotronic Advanced Designs without being hit by lasers.

This takes place in the boss room at the end of the Aether fractal. After you lower Frizz’s  health down to 75%, he will jump inside his creation. At which point 2 small lasers will be activated. They rotate the room and hurt anyone that touches them.

During the first phase you can avoid them by standing on the crates. This is the safest method. During phase 2 the lasers will grow to fill the room from top to bottom. At this point you have no choice but to move around the room and avoid the lasers.

In the last phase, the small laser will reappear and circulate the room faster than the large laser. Use the boxes and higher objects to avoid the small laser. Make sure to keep tabs on where the golems are. If you’re unlucky they may push, pull or knock you into the lasers.

Each phase is determined by killing the two golems that spawn. You should also be careful about where the lasers spawn. If you watch the central column you will see two posts extended when a new laser is about to appear.

Complete the boss without being hit by the lasers at any point.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideHeadhuter
Defeat the Legendary Archdiviner at the top of the Cliffside fractal while only killing five cultists or chanters. This does not include the initial entourage. Must be completed on scale 21 or above.

Once you reach the Archdiviner in the Cliffside fractal, you need to kill him without killing more than 5 chanters. The chanters that spawn at the start do not count towards this.

The best strategy is to keep him close to where the fight starts and lower his health as fast as possible. Once the hammer drops, kill the first chanter closest and hit the seal without pulling aggro from the other chanters.

This should be fairly simple at the first Cliffside fractal after 21. Be mindful of the skills your group are using. You want to avoid killing any extra chanters.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideGreat Heights
Defeat the Anomaly without anyone falling off the platform inside the Thaumanova Reactor fractal.

This is a fairly simple task, make sure no one falls off the platform at the Anomaly boss. While fighting the boss the platform will shrink, and become far more disrupted as you lower the bosses health.

If you have the laser fixation, you want to move around as little as possible and away from the group. Each title that is active will pulse 3 times before vanishing. You can use this to your advantage. It’s possible to activate very few tiles by standing on one tile for two pulses before moving to a fresh one.

The biggest issue is when all players become fixated with a pulsing AoE under their character. This will light up floor tiles as you run around trying not to fall. This AoE will hit multiple tiles at the same time, so you will have to keep moving regardless.

If you find yourself in a very dangerous area, you have a last resort of using your special action key to nullify the effect of a flashing tile. You should save this for dire situations, but multiple players can get on one tile and a single activation will save everyone.

The group should focus the boss and inflict as much damage as possible. The faster the boss dies, the less likely a player will fall from having to deal with extended mechanics.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideStealth Bombers
Use stealth to bomb the reinforced door without triggering any security turrets or contractors within the Underground Facility fractal.

There is an element of random selection tied to this achievement. After the drill area with the 2 buttons, you will enter a hallway up a ramp. Inside this area there are two paths, only one will be active at once. You will need the right path to be accessible to earn this achievement.

If the path is open, the group needs to stealth themselves using the vent near the bombs, pick up a bomb and run it to the end of the area. Once they’ve placed the bomb, they will then need to run back and do it again.

There are nine bombs in total needed to clear this area. The further progression the group makes, more enemies will spawn. Stepping into the AoE of the dredge suites will show your location with a gleaming bright light from your character. If this happens, the achievement will be void for anyone trying to earn it.

Chaos Fractal

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideChaos Demolisher
Complete the Chaos fractal on the Master tier.

This will be rewarded when you complete the fourth tier Chaos fractal. This tier unlike the previous will have 3 mistlock instabilities active at the same time.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideKitty Compactor
Defeat the Chaos Anomaly and each of the champion golems.

Once you reach the first boss of this fractal, the Anomaly, the fight will with four golems. You will need to kill the champion versions of these golems.

The golems progress through different forms depending on which one is killed first in each phase. So depending on which golem you need for your achievement progress for, you should focus that golem first every time until it becomes a champion.

Once the champion version is killed, you will unlock progress towards the achievement. You will need to repeat this for each golem. Keep track of which champion you need to kill in the achievement panel.

Guild Wars 2 Fractals of the Mists Achievement GuideNotetaker
Find all 7 of the lost journal pages in Chaos Isles.

Through the Chaos fractal there are seven notes that you need to find for this achievement. Most of are in plain sight, however there are a couple that are tucked away.

  1. Located to the left behind some rubble near the enemies at the start.
  2. Head to the gate after killing the enemies. Take the platform to your right instead of going through the door. Clear the little jumping puzzle and the page is inside a small alcove.
  3. Just before the Anomaly boss, there is a path to the right where a Mistlock Singularity can be found. A little further past the Singularity you will find a small floating platform. Jump across and down to the platform to find the third journal entry.
  4. As you enter the Anomaly boss, you will see this page on the far left side near a group of golems. You can kill the boss and make your way over to this area afterwards.
  5. This one is well hidden, but before you head down into the Snowblind area look for a staircase that will lead you to the top of the wall. it’s just to your left after you enter this area. Follow the path up high and the journal entry can be found high above the forest on a ledge.
  6. Before you can reach this one, you need to clear the forest and stop the storm. Once the storm is clear, backtrack into the forest and keep to the far left edge with your back to the boss area. The journal entry can be found on the slopes.
  7. Right before the boss below the wooden platform.
