Before you can attempt any of these achievements you will first need to complete the story steps to unlock the achievements.

You will be required to replay some story instances several times to earn some achievements. This is due to decisions that the player needs to make in order to earn the requirements.

This guide covers act one from Heart of Thorns. This achievement guide will aid you in earning all the achievements to complete the episode.


Story Progression

Torn from The sky

Guild Wars 2 Heart of Thorns Act 1 Achievement Guide Dug In
Help the soldiers build up their defenses.

As you enter the small camp you will need to make a choice. Siding with Metella will allow you to build the defenses for the camp.

Note: If you’re a Sylvari player, you can also earn Sylvari Solidarity while selecting this dialog choice.

Guild Wars 2 Heart of Thorns Act 1 Achievement Guide Conservation of Resources
Keep the turret operational during the night attack.

After siding with Metella you will progress to a defense stage. During this stage a turret will be outside the camp that you must defend. If it’s destroyed, you will need to start over. This is fairly simple and easy enough to do, but Mordrem will appear from in front and behind you. So keep checking your blind spots.

Having this turret will also cause aggro to the small boss fight at the end. Once he’s removed from his mount, you can keep his attention on you by standing next to him. Make sure that his AoE attacks are away from the turret.

Help Laranthier search for prisoners.

If you arrived at the camp and sided with Metella you will need to replay this instance to pick Laranthiers dialog. Doing so will progress the alternative path of this story instance.

Guild Wars 2 Heart of Thorns Act 1 Achievement Guide Sylvari Solidarity
Help a sylvari resist the Mordremonth’s Call.

Requirement: To earn this you will need to be a Sylavari player. It’s highly possible a Sylvari party leader can also unlock this for you. But there may be a possible bug as this didn’t work during testing.

After talking to Metella and deciding to defend the camp, you will head off to find parts. During this progression you will meet a soldier who’s trying to battle the Moremonth influence. During this interaction you will help the soldier battle the influence.

Guild Wars 2 Heart of Thorns Act 1 Achievement Guide Weed Whacker
Defeat 30 Morderm during the night attack.

At the final showdown a swarm of Moreden will attack the camp. You will need to kill 30 of these enemies to earn this, which is fairly easy. There’s plenty of enemies and using AoE attacks helps greatly. You can pick either story decision to reach this point.


The Jungle Provides

Guild Wars 2 Heart of Thorns Act 1 Achievement Guide Now That’s a Fungus
Locate the Mushroom King near the Itzel village and help the Itzel farmer defeat it so that they can bring the meat home for his soup recipe.

At the very start of the instance you will run up a path to see Mordren Guard attacking the Itzel scouts. Just to your left you will see a cave entrance, instead of talking to the scout head inside, and follow the path until you find the Itzel Farmer.

After a short conversation he will ask you to help take down the Mushroom King. He’s fairly simple, though you may want to bring crowd control and stability as he uses a lot of knockbacks.

Help the high priest recover the totems of the Jaaka Itzel tribe that are scattered throughout the surrounding jungle after the last Moredem Guard Attack.

Once dealing with the farmer’s issues, head out of the cave and east towards the second achievement marker. This is where you will find the High Priest Copuul who needs your help. You will need to gather 5 totems scattered around the village area.

You can take advantage of your masteries here if you have them, if not, then this will take a little longer to reach the required areas.

Choose to remain in the Itzel village to defend it against the Moredem Guard with lbli and Kaana Miatli.

Once you enter the village you will need to make a choice of where to fight the Mordrem Guard. You can either stay in the village, or you can go with Tizlak and fight the Mordrem before the reach the village to the south..

You can only pick one side for this fight, so replaying the chapter will be required fro “Is A Good Offense”.

Just keep in mind if you take too long to decide your decision will be made for you and you will defend the village.

To earn either of these achievements you will be required to finish the instance.

Choose to go with Tizlak to attack the Mordrem Guard at their stating area before they can attack the Itzel village.

Prisoners of the Dragon

Guild Wars 2 Heart of Thorns Act 1 Achievement Guide Artful Dodger
When ascended the narrow path off the plateau, destroy all the Mordem tendrils without being hit by their poison area attacks.

Once you’ve reached the start of the camp, you will need to progress up a narrow pathway of death. You will need to find and use incendiary grandees to work your way through the vine ahead. The best way to tackle this is to take it slow, and keep your distance. As long as you stay out of the AoE circles.

You can allow your fellow allies take most of the aggro from these tendrils, so this is a simple enough task.

Guild Wars 2 Heart of Thorns Act 1 Achievement Guide My Friends, the Smiths
While traveling to the Mordrem prison camp, find and rescue the five ordnance masters from the Pact: Baroosh, Shashoo, Beigarath, Izu, and Occam.

After you enter the camp, you will find Beigarath lying behind a wall of vines on your left hand side. After talking to him, he will mention his fellow smiths, and his hammer. You will then need to try and find the other npcs.

Izu, Shashoo and Baroosh are all within the next area before the tendral vine pathway of death.  Izu to the east of the area, Shashoo to the west and Baroosh to the north. Occam however is located within the area with the Moredrem Overseer towards the south-west corner. You can save this npc without triggering the fight.

Once all npcs have been rescued and re0unite at the camp, this will unlock. The map below details their locations:

Guild Wars 2 Heart of Thorns Act 1 Achievement Guide Stick the Landing
When gliding down into the Mordrem prison camp, land within the marked target zone.

NOTE: If you’re looking to earn Peer Review, read blow before attempting this. It’s possible that you can earn this in the same instance.

During this point in the story you will need to glide down to the Morden prison camp. Below you will see a circle marker that you need to land in. It’s possible to miss this marker, so make sure to judge your distances carefully. If you feel like you’re going to overshoot the landing zone, collapse and re-deploy your glider to make sure you land within the designated circle.

This takes place just after defeating the Mordrem Overseer.

Explore the measa and follow the ornithologist’s trail of clues to verify or disprove his hypothesis.

After defeating the Moredrem Overseer, you will be told to glide across where you can earn “Stick the Landing”. Instead, glide and bank to a hard left. Look for some stairs below and land on them. At the bottom of the stairs you will find journal papers on the ground.

You will need to carefully follow these papers up a cliff side, collecting all 9 for the achievement. Once you reach the end you will need to fight a griffon. This is fairly easy to overlook, and there’s no way to reach this area if you continue forward to the camp below.
