Saints Row 4

Author Notes

There are times where the tracking in this game is a little iffy. If you complete the requirements, and don't unlock achievements/trophies, then you may need to quit the game and clear your system cache. This may be a rare bug, but it happened to me several times. It's just something to keep in mind while playing this title.

Side Quests

How It Should Be How It Should Be
Completed all open world gameplay, Simulated Steelport is yours!

Throughout the game world there are various activities such as fraud, mayhem, genki, sprint races and fight clubs. You also have vehicle mayhem and several other challenges to complete. These challenges control which parts of the game island you control. Once in full control the section of the island will turn purple to show you’ve completed the activities in that area.

All the side quests you’re given by your homies will force you to complete all these activities for them, there are three stages to their side quests which have you completing up to four objectives per stage. So you will complete around 12 activities per homie. You can complete these activities outside of their side missions as well to earn their progress.

Once the whole island has turned purple from you completing all the activities you can, this will unlock with your progress towards completing the various side quests tied to them.

Half Way Home Half Way Home
Completed half of all open world gameplay, let’s finish the fight.

See “How It Should Be”.

Paranormal Bromance Paranormal Bromance
Completed Matt’s Quests, Loyalty Mission, and Romance.

As you progress and unlock new homies for your crew, they will give you side quests. These side quests will unlock new weapons and abilities for your character to progress with. As stated under “How It Should Be”, your progress towards these quests requires you to complete the various activities on the island.

The one main difference to these achievements/trophies is that you need to talk and romance each homie on the ship as well. Be warned that the tracking for these achievements/trophies is a little weird. You may complete everything required, including romancing your homies, and these won’t unlock. I’ve found that quitting the game, clearing your cache and re-romancing your homie of choice will then unlock the requirements. Just keep this in mind as it’s a possible bug that can cause frustration.

When you’re on the ship, don’t forget to talk to your homie by pressing :y: or by romancing by pressing :x:. These two things are very easy to overlook, but they’re a requirement for these to unlock.

Customization/Upgrades

Maximum Stopping Power Maximum Stopping Power
Completely upgraded one of your weapons. They can’t repel firepower of this magnitude!

To fully upgrade one of your weapons you need to visit friendly fire in one of the various locations. Once you arrive, you can then pres :y: and access the store menu. Once open, select upgrades, then just max out your stats for each requirement of that weapon.

Elementary Elementary
Customized the elements of all four superpowers. Now you’re playing with powers!

Before you can attempt this you first need to obtain at least one upgrade for each of your powers. These come through progressing through the game and completing various side quest activities, as well as general story progression.

Better This Way Better This Way
Customized the style of all the weapons on your radial and hit the Simulation with style.

While paying a visit to Friendly Fire, you have the option to customize the way your weapons look. The requirement for this achievement/trophy is to change the look of each gun you carry on your radial menu. Once you’ve changed the skin for each weapon this will unlock.

Where's My Cape? Where’s My Cape?
Purchased all Super Power upgrades. Super Excellent!

Before you can buy all the upgrades to your super powers, I highly recommend that you progress through the game up until you have the “Grand Finale” unlocked. Up to this point you should have most of the game world, upgrades and collectibles unlocked. To fully upgrade your character you need to unlock the abilities through missions, then buy upgrades for them using the clusters you find around Steelport.

This is a long-winded process, so I highly recommend that you complete everything you can, activities, side missions, collectibles, challenges and so on so obtain everything you need. Your final major power that you obtain is unlocked through “The Kinzie Gamit” mission, so until you complete this there’s no progressing with your powers until this point. There are also rewards for completing challenges, so you needs to check everything and upgrade accordingly.

This is quite time-consuming, but once you have access to the whole game and have pretty much everything but the final mission complete, you should be able to upgrade all your powers.

First of Many First of Many
Bought your first Upgrade, now you have the action Kung Fu grip!

Upgrades come in various forms to your weapons, such as damage, ammo capacity and so on. You can visit any Friendly Fire throughout the game and apply upgrades to your weapons. There are side quests to do this also, so if you’re progressing through those, or just exploring, you will obtain this at some point during your progression.

Powers

I Am Become Death I Am Become Death
Killed 1000 Aliens with any combination of Super Powers.

As you progress through the game you will obtain various new powers to use. With these powers you will need to kill enemies in various different ways, that be freezing, throwing, stomping, using a buff and so on. With each power there is a set amount of kill for each achievement/trophy. Just keep in mind that you need to kill aliens with these powers, and not civilians. This can be extremely tedious if you happen to ignore using your powers at times.

Alternatively, towards the end of the game, in the “Grand Finale”, there is an infinite spawn of aliens within the first mission once inside with the key. Here you can perform all your various super powers on the aliens that spawn and unlock all of these with ease. Just remember to obtain all your skills and powers before doing this method.

Don't Look Down Don’t Look Down
Airborne during Super Jumps for a combined 10 minutes of gameplay.

This will come hand-in-hand with “And I Ran…” as if you’re exploring the city and avoiding all transport, just hold down :a: to perform a super jump while running around. This also comes in extremely useful while hunting down clusters.

And I Ran... And I Ran…
Super Sprinted for 250,000 meters.

This will come over time, but you need to sprint by holding the :lb: for 250,000 meters. If you’re moving around the city a lot by the found or running around looking for clusters, this should unlock fairly quickly. Just progress through the game and it will unlock somewhere around the half way point of your progress.

Collectibles

The Whole Story The Whole Story
Found all Audio Logs.

See “A Real Cluster….”.

Ooo A Piece of Candy! Ooo A Piece of Candy!
Found 100 Data Clusters in virtual Steelport. There are so many more…

See “A Real Cluster….”.

A Real Cluster.... A Real Cluster….
Found 100% of all Data Clusters.

All collectible items and clusters are fairly easy to spot around Steelport, but if you’re having difficulty finding the last few hundred, you can complete the side quest “The Pledge” for Matt Miller. He will then give you the ability to see all collectibles on your map, that being clusters, audio logs and text logs.

At some point you will obtain this ability if you’re completing everything else, but earning this early on will save you a lot of time. You may also want to upgrade your jump, run and Telekinesis powers to make collecting a lot faster. Some orbs require you to have various powers sound as the ground stop to obtain them, so if you find that some can’t be obtained at your current level, you will need to progress in the story until you have the abilities to unlock them.

Misc

Experimental Tech Experimental Tech
Killed 25 enemies with each of the best toys.

There are 6 special weapons in the game which you will earn through general game progression, and completing the odd challenge. Once you have all these weapons unlocked, you will need to kill 25 enemies with them. To make this easier, I suggest targeting only aliens as the lines are a little blurred at times. Some challenges and kills only count with alien enemies.

Once you have each weapon, you’re tracked on the amount of kills you get with each one, so just keep going until you have some clarification on how many kills you have. Or keep track manually. Once you’ve earned 25 enemy kills with your weapon of choice, most onto the next.

You will need to use the following weapons to meet the requirements for this:

  • Dubstep
  • InflatoRay
  • Bounce Gun
  • Disintegrator
  • Abduction
  • Black Hole

Fourth and Forty Fourth and Forty
Played Saints Row IV for 40+ hours. Pour one out for your homies!

To begin with this may seem like quite a lot of time, but realistically you will finish up all challenges, collectibles, side quests, activities and so on around 35 hours. Unless you’re actively working on everything while you progress. Challenges are the most time-consuming element to this game, so you can waste quite a few hours trying to complete the odd one or two that are very long winded.

If you happen to complete everything well within this time, you have two options, head online and play with friends. Or you can leave your controller and console active while you’re away from the game. Just be sure to check on it every so often and save.

Epic Jump Quest Epic Jump Quest
Completed the epic jump quest between the tops of the Three Count and the Nuke Plant. Amazing!

On the west side of the city, you will find 3 count at the bottom of the map. North of this building you will find the power plant. Before you attempt this, I highly recommend that you have fully upgraded glide, jump and sprint. Once you have obtained this powers, it will be a lot easier to reach the power plant without running into any difficulties, though you can try before hand if you like.

Once you’re ready, jump from 3 count, and glide to the various tall buildings, run up the side of the building, then jump from the top and glide to the next. If you manage to time everything right, you should reach the power plant without any difficulty at all.

To attempt this though you do need to have the upgraded sprint ability so you can run up the side of buildings, if you don’t, this will be impossible until you have this upgrade.

The Challenge King The Challenge King
Completed all Challenges.

In total there are 64 challenges throughout the game. Most will unlock with general casual play, but there are a few you will need to work at, such as the gold challenges for activities, and a few others for earning so many kills with weapons and powers. These will be your most time-consuming activity in the game, so starting them early on will save you a lot of time in the long run.

Most of these challenges will unlock with natural progression through the game, but there are a few which take time. Just progress at your own pace, and you will unlock over half of these without having to do much else but progress through the game.

Medals

  • Blazin’ Gold Medals
  • Genki’s M.O.M. Gold Medals
  • Insurance Fraud Gold Medals
  • On-Foot Mayhem Gold Medals
  • Super-Powered Fight Club Gold Medals
  • Vehicular Mayhem Gold Medals
  • Platforming Rift Gold Medals
  • Speed Rift Gold Medals
  • TK Rift Gold Medals

Powers

  • 30 Telekinetic Catches
  • 30 Telekinesis Kills
  • Throw 100 Enemies With Telekinesis
  • 10 Vehicles Super-Kicked
  • 10 Arc Lightning Hits
  • 10 Enemies Mind Controlled
  • 10 Fire Element Ignitions
  • 100 Freeze Shatters
  • 10 Gravity Float Kills
  • 75 Ground Stomp Stuns
  • 100 Death From Above Kills
  • 10 Superpowered Beatdowns

Some power upgrades are required to unlock some of these challenges, so make sure that you keep track of your power upgrades and use them effectively towards this list.

Kills

  • Destroy 100 Alien Vehicles
  • Destroy 100 C.I.D.S
  • Destroy 60 Murderbots
  • Kill 1000 Aliens
  • Kill 30 Wardens
  • 10 Aliens Super-Kicked

These will come over time, there are plenty of enemies to fill this requirement. The only one which will take time is killing 30 Wardens. To do this you need to fill your notoriety bar to full. This i the red segmented bar around your map. Once full, a warden will spawn. Fighting them is quite tedious, but killing 30 shouldn’t take too long.

Weapons

  • 250 Bounce Rifle Kills
  • 250 Dubstep Gun Kills
  • 150 Targets Abducted
  • 250 Targets Blackholed
  • 100 Enemies Disintegrated
  • 50 Inflato-Ray Kills
  • 250 Mech Suit Kills
  • 30 Tentacle Bat Beatdowns
  • 10 Shrunken Enemies Squished
  • 10 Enemies Health Stolen

These can be a little tedious, but weapon upgrades really help in this department. To begin with your weapons don’t really cause any damage, so upgrading their power helps in the long run. I highly suggest you focus on one gun at a time and start this early. Once you reach the end of the game it can be extremely tedious to kill enemies with these weapons. Some challenges will allow you to kill any enemy type, where as others are focused towards aliens only.

If you only have a few hand full of weapons left, I highly recommend that you take advantage of the infinite spawning enemies in the first section of the “Grande Finale” mission. Once inside with the key, you can farm enemy kills for these challenges there.

Misc

  • 2,500,000 Feet Traveled in Alien Vehicle
  • 4 Miles Traveled in Mech Suit
  • 120 Minutes Spent With Homies
  • 20 Minutes of Alien High Notoriety Time
  • Complete All Other Challenges
  • 25 Miles Super Sprinted
  • 1800 Seconds of Super Jump Air Time
  • Destroy 30 Portals
  • 50 Aliens Taunted

These are all fairly simple, but the one challenge that may give you grief is traveling 2.5 million feet in an alien vehicle. You most likely won’t use vehicles in this game as your super powers make it easy to travel around faster than most cars. But you can take advantage of the alien jet which you obtain through story progress, and a rubber band. Once you have the jet, fly the jet up high, and fly in circles. From here you can just use a rubber band to hold the sticks how you need, and let the game grind away at the distance. Just make sure that you’re not too close to the boundary of the world as if you hit it, it will stop your progress.

Collectibles

  • 36 Zinyak Statues Destroyed
  • 8 Text Adventures Collected
  • 39 Audio Logs Collected

Before you attempt to find these collectibles, you should complete the side missions for Matt Miller. One of his quest completion rewards is for showing all collectibles on your mini map. You can do this fairly early on, so I highly recommend you get this out the way.

Zoo Keeper Zoo Keeper
Killed 25 Wardens. The inmates are running wild.

You will first encounter Wardens early on, they’re the source of some of your super powers. With every kills they make you a little bit stronger, but don’t under-estimate them as they will kill you quite quickly if you’re not prepared. Wardens appear once your notoriety meter fills up fully. You can consider them to be a mini boss if you so wish. Once full, you will be shown a short animation of them landing to try to shut you down.

From here, you will need to use your powers to destroy their shields and take them down. There’s a challenge for killing 30 of these enemies, so if you’re going for all challenges, this will come sooner or later. Just cause as much chaos as possible and one will spawn.

Switch Hitter Switch Hitter
You were an equal-opportunity offender.

Much like the previous games, you will need to spend 2 hours as a male, and female character. Once you’ve exceeded 2 hours as one gender, head to one of the plastic surgery clinics, and change your gender. Once you exceed 2 hours with the alternative sex this will unlock.

Back in the Day Back in the Day
Spent some quality time with your homies from back in the day.

For this you need to spend 2 hours with your homies from the previous saints titles at your side. This doesn’t count if you’re playing through story missions, but when you’re completing various side missions or activities in Steelport, call up your homies and have them help you with your progression.

After unlocking various homies, I stuck with Shaundi, Pierce and Gat. But this should count as long as you use any of the past characters from the game such as Kinzie, Matt, Young Shaundi and so on. Once you’ve spent 2 hours accumulated time with your homies in the simulation, this will unlock

Before you can obtain this, you first need to create a saintsrow.com account. This will allow you to share with the community. Once you have an account setup, you will then need to log into the community from the game, then create a character. Once your character is credited, you will then have the option to upload it.

If you’ve already created your character but ignored the upload option, you can visit “Image As Designed” at any point in the game, and use the gallery to upload your character to the saints network.
